How to Become a Participant

This program is full for the 2009-2010 school year, we cannot accept new participant applications at this time.
– New class opportunities will be posted on the Project WILD Workshop page under the Specialized section.

  1. Complete Required Workshop
All teachers must complete a 15-hour WILD About Trout in the Classroom one-credit workshop to prepare them to raise trout in their classroom. Topics covered include: tank set up, water quality monitoring, trout biology, stream ecology, and classroom activities.

Teachers who attend the workshop will receive a copy of the Trout in the Classroom Teacher's Guide, developed specifically for Idaho. See the "Specialized WILD Workshop" section on the Idaho Project Wild page for Wild About Trout in the Classroom Workshop information.

  2. Complete a Trout in the Classroom Participation Application Form

  3. Commit to Taking Care of Your Trout
The trout don't take a lot of time, but they are more maintenance than a goldfish! The tank will need to cleaned regularly, the water quality will need to be checked daily, and the trout need to be fed daily as soon as they can swim. These steps take about 10 to 20 minutes each day.
