Hunter Education - Traditional Instructor-led Classroom Courses
Traditional instructor-led classroom courses generally are the best options for youth under 14 years old or individuals having little or no hunting or firearms safety knowledge or skills. These courses provide students with the highest level of interactive, hands-on training from experienced, certified instructors. To enroll in a course, students must be 10 years old by the next general hunting season.
The Hunter Education Course includes 15-17 class hours plus a 2-4 hour range and live-fire exercise. The curriculum includes training in firearms safety, basic archery safety, hunting ethics, wildlife management, conservation, survival, regulations and a final written exam.
The Bowhunter Education Course averages 12 class hours plus a 2-4 hour field exercise. Subjects include bowhunting equipment, techniques, safety, shot placement and recovery techniques, hunter ethics, treestand safety, outdoor preparedness and a written final exam.
The cost for class materials for either course is $8.00 paid at the time of registration. View or register for a course or contact a regional office for more information.
