Salmon Region Fishing Information

Spring Fishing Report

As winter loses it grip on the Salmon Region, steelhead fishing is once again the big fishing news. This year's record return of steelhead is still producing some great fishing. Anglers are catching fish in sections 15, 16, 17, and even as far upstream as the Yankee Fork Salmon River. With as much fishing pressure as the river is getting right now, all anglers are reminded to practice good fishing etiquette so everyone can have a good day on the river.

Because of the great return, the Fish and Game Commission has increased limits on the Salmon River steelhead fishery. Anglers may now purchase a second steelhead card allowing them to harvest 40 more steelhead. This is in addition to the 40 steelhead allowed on an angler's first steelhead card. The total season limit for the spring steelhead season is 80 fish. Any angler reaching the 80-fish limit must cease fishing for steelhead, even catch-and-release fishing.

Daily limits for steelhead remain 5 fish per day with no more than 3 being 32 inches or more. Possession limits remain 15 fish with no more than 9 being 32 inches or more.

Don't forget to check with the tackle shop nearest your fishing destination for more fishing information and equipment.
