Access Management

As mule deer numbers increase across Idaho under the Mule Deer Initiative it will be the goal of the Department of Fish and Game to provide more opportunity for mule deer hunters. Already Access Yes! has provided hunters and anglers in Idaho with access to hundreds of thousands of acres of privately owned land and landlocked public land. It is our goal to eventually open up one million acres.

In the coming months and years Fish and Game will work to ensure that a large portion of Access Yes! property is prime mule deer habitat. We will also work with participating landowners to improve mule deer habitat on their land. We will also encourage more hunting access to mule deer habitat on public land.

At the same time Fish and Game will work to control access to mule deer habitat at times when such access would have a negative effect on herds. The Department will strictly enforce laws restricting the use of off road vehicles. We will also work to minimize the effect of humans encroaching on critical winter range areas to ride snowmobiles or hunt for deer antlers.
