Elk - Hunting Information
Saturday, April 19, 2014
Elk hunting is managed in 29 elk zones with a 2-tag system in most zones - A tag & B tag. In general, 'A tags' provide more opportunity for muzzleloader and archery hunters and B tags provide more opportunity for center fire rifle hunters. Hunters may select one zone and choose either an A tag or a B tag.
Thirty-two Wildlife Management Areas protect wildlife habitat and are available for hunting, fishing and other public enjoyment of wildlife. Each area is dedicated to primary purposes such as big game, waterfowl and upland game.
Seventy percent of Idaho is public land, and elk are found in every type of terrain. A back country elk hunt in Idaho’s national forests is a dream for many a hunter. Pulled from Fish and Game’s video archives is one such adventure.
